Ella Ryder, CASA Program Director
Ella Ryder comes to Cass County CASA with a wide variety of experiences of working with children and families. Most recently, her work as the Executive Director of Child Care Resources of Southwest Michigan provided her the opportunity to work with child care programs in nine counties in Southwest Michigan. This work gave her an opportunity to get to know Cass County and the services available to children here. In many ways, Ella feels as though becoming the Program Director of Cass County CASA is bringing her full circle in her life. She grew in a small rural county in Northeast Ohio surrounded by lakes and so the community of Cass County seems very familiar. She has a Master’s degree in Family Studies from Michigan State University and while there was able to intern with Dr. Ray Helfer who was one of the early experts in Child Abuse and Neglect. She felt drawn to working with families and children where abuse and neglect is a problem because of her strong passion surrounding the importance of every child deserving a nurturing and good start in life. Ella was the first volunteer CASA trained in the state of Michigan in 1983. She brings a strong commitment to the work and knowledge and expertise that will enhance the work of CASA in Cass County.
